AI Symbol Map

Let AI propose. Let evidence decide.

Plan an AI symbol map with clean inputs, bounded classification prompts, human review, and visible uncertainty. Read the complete workflow.

A bounded brief for a useful first pass.

Copyable creative brief

Classify an existing collection

Group only the supplied symbol records by observable geometry. Keep every record identifier unchanged. Return proposed groups, the rule for each group, and ambiguous cases. Do not infer cultural origin or meaning from appearance. Mark missing evidence as unknown; do not invent citations.

01 / SCOPE

Define the task

State the intended use, permitted inputs, exclusions, and review criteria.

02 / REVIEW

Inspect the actual result

Compare the output with the brief. Check facts, geometry, and readability separately.

03 / REFINE

Finish deliberately

Keep accepted changes, prepare the real files, and retain the provenance record.

Use assistance for a defined task

An AI-assisted map can begin with a collection you already understand: original icons, approved labels, or documented records. Ask for a draft grouping or consistent description, not an unsupported explanation of every symbol’s origin. Keep identifiers unchanged so each suggestion can be checked against its input.

Separate three layers

Preserve observations about visible form, suggestions made during the experiment, and accepted records. Do not publish a model’s proposed relationship as historical evidence. A review status such as “checked against source” is more useful than an unexplained numerical confidence claim.

Plan the review before the batch

Test a small set first, including ambiguous examples. Record missing entries, invented labels, and groupings that ignore your scope. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework offers a context-based approach to managing AI risks; apply that discipline by checking the consequences of an error in your particular project.

Publish approved relationships

Use a plain table alongside the visual map, and keep source notes available. Save the prompt and corrections privately when they contain internal material. The example below is a brief to copy into a separate tool, not an on-site generation feature.

Common questions

A little more context.

Can AI identify an unknown historical symbol?

A proposed identification needs verification against relevant sources. Do not treat a confident response or visual resemblance as proof of origin or meaning.

What should an AI symbol map contain?

Stable identifiers, observable features, proposed groups, accepted relationships, source references, and clear review states.
