Flag Symbol Map
A flag is not the whole record.
Compare selected flag emoji with place labels and technical sequences. Keep displayed artwork separate from names, codes, and official specifications.
The working reference
Six flags. Three distinct layers.
Selected region labels and flag emoji sequences for display testing. Keep the label even when the artwork is unavailable.
A selected text reference, not an official flag-artwork collection or a statement about political status.
Keep three fields distinct
A flag reference should separate the place label, technical sequence, and displayed artwork. The Unicode flag guidance explains that the sequences identify regions, not a permanently fixed drawing. The samples below are for text and interface reference.
Let text carry the identity
Show the written place name beside the flag. When an interface asks for a language, label the language rather than expecting the flag to explain that choice. A language option and a region-format setting answer different questions and should remain distinguishable.
Use specific sources for production artwork
Do not redraw an official flag from an emoji screenshot. When exact proportions, colors, or use requirements matter, obtain a relevant official reference for the particular design. Keep that source with the asset instead of treating a small display sample as a specification.
Test the fallback
A device may show letter-like indicators or another fallback rather than the intended flag artwork. Check the actual target environment and retain the label. This collection is deliberately selected; it does not define political status or claim to catalogue every flag.
Common questions
A little more context.
Why does a flag show as letters on my device?
The environment may not provide the intended flag presentation. Preserve the exact sequence and the written place name as a fallback.
Are these official downloadable flag images?
No. They are text sequence examples. Use a source specific to the flag when you need exact official artwork or specifications.
